Binghamton Police Investigate Downtown Dispute Involving Gun
Several city police units responded to a report of a disturbance in downtown Binghamton involving a person armed with a gun
The incident in the area of Chenango and Henry streets occurred shortly before 4 p.m. Wednesday.
People in the neighborhood said there apparently had been some type of dispute. Police were observed interviewing people inside and outside of a cellphone store at 62 Chenango Street.
An employee of a neighboring business said he saw a police officer put a "big gun" into a patrol vehicle after the disturbance. The man said he did not know the people involved in the dispute or what triggered it. He said he heard no gunshots.
People who work at nearby businesses along with Binghamton University students who were in the area watched police officers as they attempted to assess what had happened.
The scene is directly across from the Centre Plaza building, a former office complex that is being converted into apartments.
Police at the scene were unable to discuss what had occurred or whether anyone would face charges.
