SWAT Team Called to Binghamton Neighborhood After Gun Threat
A busy Binghamton street was shut down as police responded to a report that a man had threatened another person with a shotgun.
The incident started around 1:45 p.m. Thursday at 205 Robinson Street on the city's East Side.
Police officers were advised of a dispute between a landlord and tenant. They were told a man came out of the two-family house armed with a shotgun.
Before police arrived, the man went back inside the residence, which is located four blocks west of Calvin Coolidge Elementary School. Robinson Street was closed between Andrews Avenue and Howard Avenue as more officers were sent to the scene.
A SWAT vehicle showed up shortly after 2 p.m. Officers were deployed around the house while police urged the armed man to come out.
The man was taken into custody without incident a short time later.
A woman and child who also had been inside the house emerged and were taken to a nearby police vehicle.
Robinson Street was reopened just before 2:30 p.m.
Binghamton police chief Joseph Zikuski said the man and the landlord had been arguing, perhaps over a lawnmowing issue.
Zikuski said no one was injured in the incident. He said the man was taken to police headquarters where he was expected to be charged with menacing.
