Binghamton Mentoring Program Demystifies Police

Some Binghamton area children are getting to see police in a different, friendlier and more fun light under a mentoring program at the Boys and Girls Club of Binghamton.

Binghamton Police officers are participating in the program that shows kids that Police are people, too instead of just someone who makes arrests and writes tickets.

Off-duty officers will come to the Club to play games, help with homework and read to the children. The officers will lead mentoring and recreational programs in four-hour shifts after school.

Binghamton Mayor Richard David says the $20,000 program is being paid for through Community Development Block Grant funding.
