Binghamton “Illegal” Nightclub Operation Closed
Authorities say an illegal after-hours club in a Binghamton neighborhood has been shut down.
City police in recent months had been monitoring activity in a building at 333 Clinton Street in the First Ward.
Officials had noticed social media posts promoting events at the site that were scheduled to start at 3 a.m.
The announcements indicated the place was hosting a "SantaCon After Party" and a "Sexy Masquerade."
The city last month issued a lockdown warning to the owner of the property advising him that steps would be taken to shut it down if "illegal activity" at the site didn't stop.
Mayor Jared Kraham on Thursday said the owner has taken steps to put an end to the operations of the after-hours nightclub.
The Clinton Street property is owned by Omar Boone, who lives on Binghamton's West Side.
Boone on Wednesday signed a stipulated settlement with the city indicating he has changed the locks to prevent access to the person who had been responsible for the "after-hours activity."
In the agreement, Boone indicated he plans to convert the front portion of the building's first floor into a storage facility.
Boone declined to answer questions about the matter when contacted by WNBF News. He said "I would like to have no discussion" regarding the Clinton Street property.
Under the agreement, another report of trouble at the property in the next six months "will trigger an immediate lockdown."
The most serious incident involving the property occurred November 8 when police were sent to the area to investigate a reported stabbing.
Investigators discovered a party was going on inside the building at the time.
