
Binghamton Man Pleads Guilty to Felony Drug Charge After Traffic Stop
A Binghamton man who was stopped by police while riding a motorized bicycle has pleaded guilty to felony drug possession charges after officers discovered methamphetamine in his possession.
Tyner Pleads Guilty and Faces State Prison Sentence
According to Broome County District Attorney F. Paul Battisti, 40-year-old David Tyner pleaded guilty on October 31, 2025, to Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree, a Class B felony. The plea agreement includes a sentence of five years in New York State Prison, followed by three years of post-release supervision. Tyner is scheduled to be sentenced on November 27, 2025, before the Honorable Joseph F. Cawley in Broome County Court.
Routine Traffic Stop Uncovers Methamphetamine for Sale
The charges stem from a July 31, 2024 traffic stop in the City of Binghamton. Officers with the Binghamton Police Department stopped Tyner for violating a Vehicle and Traffic Law while operating a motorized bicycle. During the stop, officers discovered that he was carrying more than one-eighth of an ounce of methamphetamine and determined that he intended to sell the drugs.

Battisti Praises Police Collaboration and Tough Stance on Drugs
District Attorney Battisti commended the Binghamton Police Department for their work on the case, praising their teamwork and calling it an example of strong collaboration among local law enforcement and saying those who “peddle poison” in the community will face serious consequences.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Joseph Nieto, following an investigation conducted by the Binghamton Police Department. Officials say the case underscores Broome County’s ongoing efforts to combat drug activity through cooperation and proactive law enforcement.
