Binghamton Baseball Shrine to Induct Three
The Binghamton Rumble Ponies announced today (Friday) that three new members will be inducted into the Binghamton Baseball Shrine on Saturday, September 1st at NYSEG Stadium. Inductees in the Class of 2018 include former General Manager Jim Weed, Maine-Endwell's Little League World Series Championship Team and long-time fan and benefactor Marion O'Connor. Induction ceremonies will take place prior to Binghamton's home game against the Portland Sea Dogs.
Weed worked with the Binghamton Mets and Binghamton Rumble Ponies for 21 years. He started as a ticket intern in 1996 and worked his way up to General Manager from 2010 through 2017. He was named as the New York Mets Minor League Executive of the Year in 2011.
Maine-Endwell won the 2016 Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pa. and captivated our entire region. They became the first team from New York to win the championship since 1964. Maine-Endwell defeated Seoul, South Korea to win the championship on August 28th, 2016.
O'Connor loved Binghamton baseball and made a posthumous donation to the Rumble Ponies. Through her estate she directed funds to be used for maintenance and repairs at NYSEG Stadium. Among specific improvements were the addition of safety netting and stadium concession area enhancements.
The Binghamton Baseball Shrine was created in 1993 and has 68 members. Inductees' plaques are on display in the NYSEG Stadium concourse behind home plate.
