Bearcats Softball in NCAA Playoffs
The Binghamton Bearcats softball team plays its first Division I NCAA Tournament against James Madison University in the Harrisonburg, Va. Regional. The James Madison Dukes were ranked the Number 15 seed in the NCAA Tournament. BU is 24-19 and captured their first America East Championship May 9.
The Dukes play out of the Colonial Athletic Association and they recently captured several end-of-season awards. Jailyn Ford was named Player of the year while Megan Good earned Pitcher and Rookie of the Year honors. Binghamton catcher Lisa Cadogan was named to the All-Mid Atlantic Region First Team May 13.
Fordham and N.C.State are the other match-up in the Harrisonburg Regional. Fordham is 36-18 and has won the Atlantic 10 title three consecutive seasons. N.C.State is 35-20 and is a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference. Binghamton has played all three schools at some point.
In March of this season Fordham downed the Bearcats 6-4 at the N.C.State Invitational. In that same tournament the Wolfpack topped the Bearcats 7-0.
The regional competition is a double-elimination format. The teams will continue play May 16 as well.
