Battery Recycling Firm to Release Details on Endicott Project

Representatives of a company that plans to open an Endicott lithium-ion battery recycling facility are preparing to provide more details about the operation.

A public information meeting has been scheduled to answer questions from residents about the proposed project.

SungEel MCC Americas has announced it intends to operate the facility at the Huron Campus. It's to be located in the former IBM Building 259 at the northeast corner of Robble Avenue and Clark Street.

The information meeting will be held on November 6 at 6:30 p.m. The session will take place in the Huron Auditorium at Heritage Circle, just off North Street.

A SungEel project director on Wednesday declined to provide a status on the efforts to develop the recycling facility.

The project was announced in September 2018. The company plans to use nearly $2 million in state incentives to develop the facility.

When plans for the recycling plant were made public, officials said it would start operating in January of this year. The new target date for opening the facility has not been made public.
