Fans of the Tilt-a-Whirl and fried dough will have one less place in the Southern Tier where they can go.

WBNG TV reports the Apalachin Fire Department has voted to end their Firemen’s Field Days that have been entertaining people off Field Day Road in Apalachin for 57 years.

Department officials say competition from many other festivals in the area has made it increasingly hard to attract people to the fund raiser for the fire company.

The fire department is reportedly considering other ideas for fundraising events.
