75-Unit Apartment Project Planned for IBM Country Club Site
A developer has proposed constructing a three-story apartment complex on the site of the former IBM Country Club in the town of Union.
The Broome County Local Development Corporation board on Wednesday approved an option for purchase of the abandoned property. Under the proposal, Conifer Realty would acquire the property for $300,000.
Stacey Duncan, executive director of The Agency, said Conifer plans to partner with LeChase Construction on what is expected to be a $12 million to $15 million project.
Project plans call for 75 units of affordable housing with some one-bedroom, two-bedroom and three-bedroom apartments.
Developers will be seeking housing tax credits through New York state.
Broome County has offered $2 million in federal American Rescue Plan funds for demolition and site development work.
Duncan said economic development officials are hoping for a "fast-moving project." She said demolition of the dilapidated IBM Country Club structures could get underway next fall.
