Millions of dollars in federal funding will be made available for improvement work at Endicott's Tri-Cities Airport and the Greater Binghamton Airport.

The biggest planned project will be at the Tri-Cities Airport, where $1,148,000 will be provided for the reconstruction of runway and taxiway lighting.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration, the existing lighting systems have reached the end of its useful life and must be reconstructed to meet federal standards.

The federal government also will provide $720,000 for the purchase of snow removal equipment at the Greater Binghamton Airport in the town of Maine. A multi-purpose vehicle will be replaced with the money.

Another $135,000 is being made available to the airport operated by Broome County. That money is to be utilized to build a deicing pad and associated facilities.

The federal funding awards were announced Wednesday afternoo by Congresswoman Claudia Tenney's Washington office.
