Experience The 2024 Solar Eclipse: Exciting Events In Binghamton

Monday, April 8th, 2024 is quickly approaching, and the excitement is building throughout the country where the solar eclipse will be visible in areas of several states.

The Binghamton area will get to experience 97 percent of the eclipse. Some area schools will have early dismissals on April 8th, and even some businesses will close for a short time as the eclipse passes over.

If you are looking for some solar eclipse-related events to participate in before, during, and after the solar eclipse, Binghamton University in Vestal has four events.

According to a release from Binghamton University, it will be hosting the following events:

The “STEM Fair: Eclipse Extravaganza'' will be held from 12 Noon to 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 6th in the Oakdale Commons in Johnson City. There will be various family-friendly, educational STEM-oriented activities about the eclipse. People can also pick up eclipse glasses at the event. It is free and open to the public.
A solar eclipse watch party will take place from 2 to 4:30 p.m. on Monday, April 8, on the Peace Quad at Binghamton University. Students can pick up glasses from 12 Noon to 3 p.m. in Old Union Hall.
“Science Live!” will occur from 2 to 4:30 p.m. at Binghamton University in the Bartle Library breezeway. There will be science-themed demonstrations and activities.
“Total Eclipse of the Art: A pop-up exhibition celebrating celestial bodies” will be on view from Tuesday, April 2 to Thursday, April 11, in the Kenneth C. Lindsay Room in the Lower Galleries of Binghamton University, highlighting the sun, moon, and stars. This event is free and open to the public.

Binghamton University reminds you to view the solar eclipse on April 8th safely. Approved eclipse sunglasses and pinhole cameras are two ways to view the eclipse. Do not observe the solar eclipse without protective eyewear. Looking through a camera, binoculars or telescope is also NOT safe for viewing.
