Frederick Akshar, the Broome County undersheriff, has announced he's running for the state Senate seat vacated by fellow Republican Thomas Libous.

Akshar became undersheriff a few weeks ago. He launched his campaign with a formal announcement in the town of Dickinson Monday morning

July 26 a man stole money from the you-pick berry stand on Payne Marsh Road in Richford.

47 year old Jessie Miller and 31 year old Tiffany Goff, both of Marathon, were arrested July 30 and charged with petit larceny

Sayre Standoff Over

Sayre Police report that Justin Holloway, age 33 of Sayre is in custody after a standoff that began late in the morning July 31 and ended that evening.  Holloway was taken into custody without incident and then moved to Robert Packer Hospital for what police report as treatment for a medical warrant.
