This camp for kids throughout New York State is free of charge as New York State County Sheriff Departments are allotted a certain number of camper slots each summer.

The Broome County Sheriff's Office notes that this year, Sheriff Fred Akshar has placed no firm cap on the number of slots available to local campers. Food, lodging, travel, and activities are all free and paid for by donations. Youth are provided with athletic, musical, aquatic, recreational, and creative pursuits throughout their weekly camp session.

It is funded by the New York State Sheriff’s Institute, designed to provide the full camp experience to children who, because of economic reasons, would not have the opportunity to attend a summer camp or enjoy a summer vacation.

The Broome County Sheriff's Office states that they will be sending children from the county during the weeks of June 30 through July 6 and August 4 through August 10.

If you know a child who could benefit from the free summer camp who is between the ages of 9 and 12, contact Deputy Ed Hlebica at 607-778-1168, by email at Edward.Hlebica@broomecountyny.gov, or stop by the Broome County Sheriff’s Office for an application. The deadline to apply is April 1, 2024.
