Binghamton -Vestal Greenway Project Completed

The final barricades along the route from Binghamton University's Vestal campus to Washington Street in the city are gone. Contractors have removed the final obstacles for pedestrians and bicyclists along the two-and-a-half mile Route 434 Greenway.

Local Man Accused Of Holding Woman At Gunpoint

According to the Broome County Sheriff's Office, deputies were sent to the hotel during the early morning hours last Wednesday. Police were advised that a man with a gun would not leave a room at the hotel.

Binghamton Owned Ely Park Golf Course Attendance Is Up For the 2023 Season

Mayor Jared M Kraham announced last week that the Ely Park Golf Course which is owned by the city as hosted more than 17,000 rounds so far for the 2023 season. That's an increase of more that 2,000 rounds over the 2022 golf season to date. Binghamton has owned the golf course since it was built in 1933.

Vestal Dick's Sporting Goods Store Closes

The Dick's Sporting Goods store that was a fixture in Vestal's Town Square Mall for nearly 31 years has shut its doors. Signs at the entrance of the 47,000-square-foot-store on the Vestal Parkway advised would-be customers that the place is permanently closed. The shutdown occurred on the eve of the soft opening of the company's massive new store at the Oakdale Commons in Johnson City.

Teens Arrested After 'Z' Pool Attack in Endicott

Authorities say three people face felony charges following an attack on a teenager who was working as a lifeguard at George W. Johnson Park on the Endicott's North Side. Investigators said the three refused to leave the pool area and became confrontational with the lifeguards. Rivera allegedly punched one lifeguard. The two juveniles are accused of joining in on the attack.

New York State Drunk Driving Statistics Versus Other States

New York State ranks at number 47 out of 50 states for the least amount of drunk driving. According to Forbes, New York State had the 3rd lowest number of people killed in crashes involving a drunk driver, which comes out to 1.46 people killed per 100,000 residents of the Empire State.

Pennsylvania ranks high as well, coming in at 45 out of 50 states for the least amount drunk driving. Forbes notes that in Pennsylvania, just over 236 drivers received a DUI for every 100,000 licensed drivers and just over 28 percent of traffic deaths in 2020 were caused by a drunk driver.

Binghamton House Lockdown Warning

The city has notified the owners of a single-family house at 35 Baxter Street in the First Ward that the place has been the source of criminal activity and neighborhood disturbances. Police have been called to the address several times over the past year to deal with disturbances and noise complaints. After property owners have received a lockdown warning, they have 30 days to meet with city officials and submit a plan to address the nuisance.

Westside Residents Want 'Trap House' Lockdown

In a petition addressed to Mayor Jared Kraham, Conti wrote that he and other nearby residents are "extremely concerned" about the illicit activities taking place on the property. The petition describes the building as a "trap house" - a place where illicit drugs are sold and used. He noted the city must follow the law regarding the type of incidents that can be cited for lockdown proceedings to move forward.
