Woman Accused of Attacking Trooper in Patrol Car on I-88
A woman faces a felony charge after she allegedly attacked a state trooper while in a New York State Police patrol vehicle on Interstate 88.
Authorities say the incident happened Monday in Sidney as 39-year-old Jamie Varieur was being taken to be arraigned in a town court.
According to state police, Varieur began to assault the trooper and tried to get out of the vehicle as it was moving on the highway in Sidney.
Officials say the trooper pulled over and received help from another trooper as the woman attempted to kick out the windshield of the patrol vehicle. Varieur was "pepper sprayed and eventually complied with troopers."
The woman was charged with felony attempted assault on a police officer and misdemeanor attempted criminal mischief.
Varieur had turned herself in to state police at Oneonta to face charges in connection with a November incident. She was arraigned and sent to Delaware County jail on $4,000 bail.
