Winter Weather Advisory South of the (NY/Pa) Border

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory that apparently respects borders.

According to a statement from the NOAA Binghamton office, a Winter Weather Advisory has been issued from 9 a.m. February 22 to 6 p.m. February 22 for the counties in the Northern Tier.

Bradford, Susquehanna and Wayne Counties are in the advisory area but counties just over the border in New York: Broome, Delaware, Tioga and points north aren't even given a special weather statement from the Weather Service.

The Pennsylvania Counties and Sullivan County in New York, that are under the Winter Weather Advisory are cautioned that light snow is possible in the early morning, becoming heavier mid morning to late afternoon.

Snow could fall at rates of up to one inch an hour at times before becoming lighter in the late afternoon and evening.

The Northern Tier of Pennsylvania could be looking at total snowfall accumulations of two to four inches by Monday night.

The Greater Binghamton area could still pick up snowfall totals of two inches as rain is expected to mix in with snow in the afternoon and mixed precipitation is expected through February 23.  The National Weather Services says another inch or less of snow is possible on Tuesday.

Motorists should be aware of changing weather and road conditions, leave extra time to reach a destination and expect slippery conditions especially on bridges, ramps and at higher elevations.
