A Whitney Point man will serve five years in prison for an attack that happened when an unsuspecting couple answered a knock at their door in March of 2018.

26-year-old Thomas Sessions pleaded guilty to attempted assault after hitting a Lisle man in the head when Sessions claimed his car had broken down and asked for assistance.

New York State Police were called to the home in Lisle in March of last year with a report of a man with stab wounds.

The residents of the home heard a knock at the door between midnight and 1 a.m. March 23 and Sessions claimed his truck had broken down.  When the husband turned around, he was stabbed in the neck and head, suffering permanent injuries.

Sessions fled and authorities finally tracked him down in Arizona.

Sessions was sentenced June 14 to five years in prison, five years post release supervision and 13 years under an order of protection.

The victims had sought a stiffer sentence.
