What Next for Injury-Plagued NY Mets ????
Injuries continue to plague the New York Mets. Just as Micheal Conforto seems to have regained his batting eye and Jacob DeGrom shook off a hyperextended elbow and was outstanding with 13 strikeouts and a 3-1 win over Arizona on Friday night the Mets find out that 2014 Gold Glove winner Juan Lagares is likely sidelined for the remaining part of the season with a left big toe injury.
Lagares was diagnosed with a complete tear of the big toe plantar plate. According to reports from Associated Press and the New York Post Lagares crashed into the outfield wall trying to make a catch on Wednesday night causing the injury. An MRI revealed the injury and he is expected to have surgery this upcoming week.
Lagares has been plagued by injuries the last several seasons. He started last season on the disabled list with a strained oblique. Then he was sidelined for close to two months with a broken thumb. He also has had injury problems earlier in his career with several in 2014 as well.
