What Happens if You Click on Fake Wegmans Coupon?

Wegmans’ supermarkets, which celebrated 100 years three years ago, is NOT offering online $80 coupons or $100 gift cards to celebrate and trying to reap the benefits could compromise personal information.

The official-looking coupon post asked you to click on a link and fill out information in a survey.

What happens if you do?  The Buffalo News reports the scam could end up putting people on the Flash Rewards website, which is classified as a browser hijacker, that dumps unwanted advertising on computer-users and may also contain spyware which could steal passwords and other personal and financial information.

The report adds that people who respond deeper into the reported deal by signing up for Flash Rewards are asked to list all sorts of personal information for the chance to qualify for a gift card. All that information is shared with spam sites.

The first defense is: do not open or share the coupon on facebook and other sites.  If you have clicked on this coupon or others like for other stores like Lowes that have also been surfacing, you can install programs that scan for malware and spyware and change your passwords.
