Chenango County Seeks Health Input from Residents
The Chenango County Health Department is asking residents to help them develop strategies for keeping the community healthy in years to come.
A Community Health Assessment is being done to identify health needs and to form future decision-making. For information call the Health Department at (607) 337-1660.
Similar health surveys have been conducted by Health Departments in Tioga and Broome Counties.
Information gathered in the assessments can not only include health practices like exercise and nutrition but also such factors as the accessibility to health and wellness services. That could mean public transportation, location of facilities and other details.
The Chenango County Community Health Assessment being done online on surveymonkey at www.surveymonkey.com/r/8PC9HY2 asks basic information like age, race, health issues and condition as well as some more specific queries concerning education, household makeup, income, child care use and opinions about the quality of life.
Residents can rate their opinion about raising children in Chenango County, what it means to grow old in the county, safety at schools, playgrounds, shopping and other public places, housing availability, walking or bike-riding distance to services and factors that can play into the economic health of the county like support for new and existing businesses and industry.
Some new questions that have not been found in previous planning tools for local health departments, of course concern COVID-19. The new survey asks about access to information, testing and vaccinations as well as whether the responding resident have gotten the COVID-19 vaccine and/or boosters.
In all, there are 29 questions on the survey.
