New Manhattan Wegmans Store Much Smaller Than Its JC Location

Wegmans Johnson City store has almost 50 percent more space than the new operation the company plans to open next year in Manhattan.

The Rochester-based supermarket chain on Thursday announced it intends to operate a second store in New York City.

The new store is expected to open in the second half of 2023. It will be located at 770 Broadway in Manhattan. The Greenwich Village site previously was occupied by a Kmart store.

Under terms of a 30-year lease, the new Wegmans store will occupy 82,000 square feet on two levels of the building. The Wegmans location in Johnson City has about 122,000 square feet of space.

Wegmans opened its first New York City store in the Brooklyn Navy Yard in 2019. The company's store on Harry L. Drive in Johnson City started operations in August 1990.
