Historic Square Deal Arch Being Rebuilt in Johnson City
Workers have started the task of reassembling the arch built by Endicott Johnson Shoe Company workers more than a century ago.
Pieces of the structure were delivered to Main Street in Johnson City on Tuesday. The precast sections were transported from Lakelands Concrete Products of Lima, a short distance from Rochester.

Village officials said road closures and detours will remain in place until the project is completed.
Eastbound traffic on Main Street is being detoured onto Carhart Avenue and then to Floral Avenue.
Westbound traffic from Main Street in Binghamton is being directed to Floral Avenue and then onto Willow Street.
There appeared to be no significant traffic problems on Tuesday as motorists navigated the posted detour.

A woman who lives in a Main Street apartment house near the construction site wasn't happy that the project means she won't be able to park in her usual spot.
Harash Stop & Shop - a convenience store located just west of where the arch is being reassembled - remains open while the work is underway.

An employee of the business said the detour didn't seem to be have a big impact on the store because many customers are from the neighborhood.
Johnson City officials have said they hope the arch reconstruction work can be completed within two or three weeks.
