The Disabled American Veterans says there is a danger local vets may lose transportation services due to a critical shortage of volunteer drivers.

The shortage is an issue throughout Central New York and is, in part blamed on 1986 budget cuts that eliminated all funding for federal reimbursement for the costs of transportation to VA medical facilities.

Disabled American Veterans vans are stationed in several counties through Central New York but the D-A-V says it lacks people to take veterans to and from medical appointments.

Anyone who can spare a few days a month to transport vets or wants more information can call (315) 425-4343.
