An elderly Vestal woman is safe after being helped from her burning home by firefighters on May 18.

Broome County Emergency Services officials say authorities were told a disabled woman was in the house at 2600 Stamford Drive when heavy smoke and flames were seen shooting from the attic at around quarter of two.

A second alarm was called and firefighters from Endwell and Apalachin joined Vestal battling the blaze.

The fire was reported out less than a half hour later.

The cause is under investigation.
