Vestal Building That Housed Hardware Store, Rug Shop Demolished
An old commercial structure on the Vestal Parkway that had been home to various businesses over several decades has been torn down.
The two-story building just east of the Four Corners intersection was demolished this week by crews with LCP Group of Vestal.
Westfall's Hardware Store operated at the site at 114 Vestal Parkway East for more than 40 years. That business closed in February 1983.
Schaffer Darpino Rugs also occupied a section of the building more recently. That business now operates at a nearby parkway site.
Bright Nails salon had used a portion of the building for about 15 years. The salon relocated its operation to University Plaza in Vestal in April.
While the ground floor just-demolished building had been used as commercial space, property owner Peter Maciak said there were six apartments on the second floor.
Maciak indicated the future use of the site is uncertain. He said he wanted to get the property cleared to make it available for new development. He said a few people have expressed interest in the site.
