The UMBC Retrievers proved too strong for the Binghamton Bearcats in women's basketball March 1 at the RAC in Catonsville, Md.  UMBC withstood a strong second half comeback by the Bearcats and rolled to a 73-50 victory to close their regular season with a record of 6-10.  The Bearcats finish at 2-14.  UMBC defeated Binghamton at the Events Center last month 71-55.

UMBC was up 33-24 at the half.  Binghamton put on a 12-2 run and closed to within one point of the Retrievers with 11:48 to go.  But the Retrievers countered with a 20-3 run of their own and ended up outscoring BU 40-26 in the second half.

Gintare Surdokaite paced the Bearcats in scoring with 15 points. Imani Watkins tossed in 14 more for Binghamton.

Binghamton plays host to the America East women's tournament March 6 and 7 at the Events Center.  The Bearcats are a number eight seed and meet the regular season champion Maine Black Bears in the tournament opener March 7 at noon.  Tim Heiman will call the action on News Radio 1290 WNBF beginning at 11:45 a.m.
