The UMass Lowell River Hawks overcame a 14-point deficit in the second half and defeated the Binghamton Bearcats 85-79 Wednesday night in men's basketball at the Events Center in Vestal. The win ups the River Hawks overall record to 12-9 and 4-2 in America East competition. Binghamton falls to 5-15 with an America East record of 1-4.

Binghamton was ahead by 14 points with 16:06 to go in the second half. The Bearcats were up 72-71 with just under four minutes to play but could not halt the River Hawks comeback. UMass Lowell outscored the Bearcats 46-35 in the second half of play.

Binghamton freshman standout Sam Sessoms scored a game-high (and career-high) 32 points. He finished two points off the BU Division I single game record of 34 points shared by Dusan Perovic and J.C. Show. Senior Caleb Stewart also had a big game for the Bearcats. He scored a career-high 22 points and grabbed 16 rebounds for a double-double. Binghamton also got a superb performance from Chancellor Bernard. He scored eight points, grabbed seven rebounds and blocked seven shots. Overall BU blocked nine shots in the game. Christian Lutete paced UMass Lowell with 29 points and seven rebounds.

The loss drops Binghamton's America East record to 1-4 while the River Hawks move to 4-2. The Bearcats remain home and host the Maine Black Bears on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 P.M. Airtime is 12:45 on News Radio 1290 WNBF.
