According to the Tioga County Sheriff's Office, Whitmore is accused of forcing his way into the home of an Owego gas station employee early Monday morning.

Whitmore allegedly kidnapped the employee and two other people, forcing them to take him to the Citgo station and convenience store on West Main Street.

Investigators say Whitmore is suspected of stealing money from the business before running away. He was taken into custody by sheriff's deputies a short time later.

The second man arrested in the case is 30-year-old Herbert Truesdail of Owego. He was charged with burglary.

Whitmore and Truesdail were arraigned in Owego town court and sent to Tioga County Jail without bail.

Both men also have been charged in a Christmas Eve robbery at the John Barleycorn tavern on Front Street in Owego. They face counts of robbery and burglary in that case.
