“No Kings” Rallies Held in Binghamton and Owego
Hundreds of people participated in pro-democracy demonstrations at courthouses in Broome and Tioga counties.
The rallies in Binghamton and Owego were among the thousands of gatherings held across the United States on Saturday.
Similar demonstrations to protest the policies implemented by President Donald Trump were held last June.
Police reported no incidents in connection with the weekend demonstrations in the Southern Tier.
Several people spoke at the hourlong event in downtown Binghamton before rally participants marched west on Court Street. Many carried signs as they walked for a few blocks before crossing the street and marching back to the Broome County Courthouse.
In Owego, a group gathered in front of the Tioga County Courthouse to listen to speakers criticizing Trump administration policies.
Some held signs with messages that included "Democracy Dies in Silence" and "Everyone Deserves Due Process."
At the events in Binghamton and Owego, some of the participants dressed up in various costumes.
