Troopers say 32-year-old Erik Williams was driving north in the southbound lane shortly before 2 a.m. when His Dodge Caravan smashed into a Freightliner Cascadia semi-trailer truck driven by 56-year-old John Anderson of Johnson City.

Authorities say about 50-gallons of diesel fuel spilled.

Both drivers were taken to UpstateUniversity Medical Center in Syracuse with non-life threatening injuries.

Route 17 was closed between Homer and Cortland for about five hours.

Williams is charged with driving while intoxicated.
