Site Work Starts for Two Town of Dickinson Solar Projects
Two solar energy facilities are being built in the town of Dickinson but no additional projects will be approved by the town until further notice.
The solar projects now under construction were approved before the town adopted a temporary moratorium on future installations.
Town supervisor Michael Marinaccio said the two projects off Glenwood Road are currently being developed.
Trees are being clear-cut at one of the sites located near Glenwood and St. Michael's cemeteries.
Marinaccio said that project was held up by the Covid-19 pandemic but work recently started at that site.
He said the other project is being developed on a site further up Glenwood Road.
Each of the projects being built in the town will generate about five megawatts of power.
Marinaccio said several entities had expressed interest in developing additional solar projects in that section of the town of Dickinson.
The town board adopted the temporary moratorium on approving additional projects until a comprehensive review could be conducted of regulations pertaining to such facilities.
