Troopers in Chemung County Capture Subject Trying to Take Flight
It's not a jail bird New York State Troopers in the Southern Tier have captured but an actual bird.
State Police in Horseheads January were on a routine patrol when they found an injured juvenile bald eagle in a gravel pit.
Authorities say they believe the young bird’s wing had been injured after coming in contact with a nearby power line.
The bird ended up fleeing into a pond and managed to get to the other side.
Troopers waded into the pond later in the day and tracked the bird into a wooded area where they were able to capture it and get it to the Cornell University Wildlife Hospital for treatment.
State Police officers were assisted by the New York State Office of Environmental Conservation.
