Town of Union Re-Thinks Park and Recreation Plans in Light of COVID-19
The Town of Union is calling off a number of popular events and keeping some recreational facilities closed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Town officials say given the current circumstances related to the COVID-19 pandemic, a phased-in timetable is in place for opening government, businesses and the "attractive nuisances" that are the Town parks and attractions.
The Town says all shelter rentals at parks for the months of May and June have been cancelled and deposits will be returned.
Shelter rentals for July and August are on hold for now. The Town says if those rentals are allowed to move forward, health precautions to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, like social distancing and wearing masks will be followed at that time.
Some popular events in the Town are being called off this year. The American Car Cruisers Car Show in mid-June is canceled as is the Town of Union July 4 Spectacular and Fireworks.
Summer recreation programs have been canceled and the carousels and pools are closed until further notice.
Any large scale events scheduled for July and August are also on hold until officials see how the phased-in timetable is progressing and directives are issued and modified.
