Washington Avenue Building Removed for Endicott Development Site

A single-family house on Endicott's Washington Avenue has been torn down as efforts continue to redevelop the site where a hotel once stood.

Developer Justin Marchuska said the building was demolished to "expand our footprint" for a future project. The vacant two-story house at 218 Washington Avenue was acquired for $90,000 less than a month ago.

Marchuska has been working on plans for a mixed-use development for the site of the old Endicott Inn. The hotel near Union-Endicott High School had become the source of problems before it was knocked down in early 2019.

Marchuska's Vestal-based firm had purchased an adjacent property on Madison Avenue last year. A house on that lot also was demolished to increase the amount of space available for a future project.

Marchuska said the company now owns about two acres of land around the former Endicott Inn site. That includes a two-story Washington Avenue office building next door to the post office.

Marchuska told WNBF News on Monday he envisions a mixed-use project that could include commercial space on the street level and market-rate apartments on the top two floors.

New York state provided a grant to cover the cost of demolishing the run-down hotel at the site.

Previous plans had called for construction of a "brand-name hotel" on the property. That concept was scrapped because of the need for more permanent housing in the region.
