West Endicott Motel Near En-Joie Golf Course to Be Torn Down

An abandoned town of Union motel that's been targeted by vandals and arsonists for years is about to be demolished.

The old Red Carpet Inn has been viewed by many as the biggest eyesore in West Endicott in recent years. Redevelopment efforts at the West Main Street property near En-Joie Golf Course have been unsuccessful.

Broome County Executive Jason Garnar said the place "has been sitting there forever - getting worse and worse." He said the site has been "one of the big last remaining eyesores" in the county.

Garnar told WNBF News the property has just been acquired by the Broome County Land Bank and "the whole thing's going to be demolished within the next few months."

A New Jersey man - Rakesh Shroff - purchased the site for $325,000 in November 2019. He had said he had planned to remodel the place but that never happened.

Garnar said he hopes the "really decrepit" building should be torn down soon. He hopes the lot will be cleared in time for the Dick's Sporting Goods Open which will be held in mid-June.

The county executive said the future of the Red Carpet Inn property has not been determined.
