A Broome County apartment house owner faces charges after he allegedly unlawfully evicted a woman.

Authorities said 65-year-old Daniel Rose of Brotzman Road in the town of Chenango was arrested on two misdemeanor counts.

According to the sheriff's office, the resident returned Monday evening to discover her belongings had been removed from the apartment. The items were left outside on a porch and tossed into garbage cans. The locks to the apartment had been changed.

Officials said the woman had lived in the apartment for nine months and paid the rent during that time.

Investigators said Rose would not reveal who had entered the apartment and removed the woman's property. He also would not allow the woman to stay there and he would not cooperate with the police investigation.

Rose was charged with unlawful eviction and obstructing governmental administration.

Officials said the case was not related to the state moratorium on evictions due to Covid-19 hardships.
