A Binghamton towing service came to the aid of a horse that had fallen on ice on a Broome County farm.

According to the Broome County Sheriff's Office, the horse - known as "Big Guy" - was unable to get up after falling.

The farm owner had tried for several hours to help the animal before calling for assistance. The horse weighs between 1200 and 1300 pounds.

Authorities say Deputy Ty Mathis coordinated a rescue effort with the Chenango Bridge Fire Department.

U-Save Towing and Recovery sent a heavy-duty wrecker equipped with a rotating boom and other equipment.

Rescuers were able to help the horse stand up. While the animal was suspended by webbing and the boom, he was guided to a barn.

A veterinarian examined the horse and determined he was not hurt.
