The 32nd Annual Chris Thater Memorial presented by SEFCU is scheduled for this weekend, August 22 - 23 in Downtown Binghamton.  Organized by the Broome County Stop DWI Program the races and activities were developed and are held in honor of Christopher Thater, a 23-year-old cycling enthusiast and Binghamton University graduate who was killed by a drunk driver on October 16, 1983.  The annual bicycle race was started the next year to honor Chris and to increase public awareness of substance abuse and traffic safety.

Events begin Saturday morning at 9:00 AM with the Lee Barta Challenge. Bicycling competition begins with Master Men's racing  at 10:30 AM.  Various age groups will race throughout the day and into the evening including the Women's Pro/1-2 at 6:00 PM and the Men's Pro/1 at 8:00 PM.

Sunday's events include the Chris Thater Memorial 5K Run beginning at 9:50 AM and the Kids Run at 10:45 AM plus the Women's Pro/1/2/3 and Men's Pro/1/2 to conclude the weekend.  Free parking will be available at all downtown parking ramps throughout the weekend.
