Police say a 17-year-old boy has died following a collision involving a horse-drawn buggy and a sport utility vehicle in Madison County.

Authorities say Rudy Hershberger of Earlville was thrown from the buggy he was operating when it was hit from the rear by a Chevrolet Equinox.

The crash happened on Route 26 in the Town of Georgetown around 5:15 p.m. Tuesday.

Hershberger landed on a shoulder of the roadway. He was taken Community Memorial Hospital in Hamilton, where he was pronounced dead.

Investigators say the SUV was driven by 19-year-old Taylor Manwarren of Eaton. She was not injured.

Police did not indicate whether any charges are expected to be filed in connection with the crash.
