Sky-watchers get a double treat this weekend.  In addition to a full, Harvest Moon that should appear very large since it will be the closest full moon of the year to the earth according to NASA lunar experts, there will be a total lunar eclipse as well.

The eclipse will happen at 8:11 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time Sunday, September 27th.  The total eclipse will start at 10:11 p.m. and the moon will have a reddish tinge.  The eclipse will last an hour and 12 minutes.

The weather in the Southern Tier looks to be uncertain with clouds and a 20% chance of rain.

The telescopes at the Kopernik Space and Science Center in Vestal will be available for public viewing and the center will be open regardless of the weather.

The doors open at 7:30 and the program begins at 8.  Admission is $5 adults, $3 students and seniors and $16 for an entire family.

Information on the program and other events at Kopernik can be found at www.kopernik.org.
