Storms Knock Out Power to Thousands of NYSEG Customers
Thousands of New York State Electric and Gas customers lost electric service because of damage caused by strong thunderstorms.
Sunday afternoon's storms interrupted power in several counties. More than 4,000 NYSEG customers were without electricity for a time following the storms.
About 520 utility customers in Tioga County were affected. More than 2,400 customers without service were in Tompkins County.
Utility crews had restored power in most areas by Monday morning. Outages still were reported in scattered sections of Tioga, Delaware, Chemung, Steuben and Cayuga counties.
Some property damage was reported in Tioga County. A resident in the town of Candor reported problems caused by downed trees and power lines.
The Binghamton office of the National Weather Service received reports of hail associated with the storms but no significant widespread damage.
