Investigators say a man drowned after he went into a lake near Richfield Springs after he saw his boat drifting away while he was on an island.

According to New York State Police, troopers and other emergency crews were sent to Canadarago Lake In Otsego County shortly after 10:30 a.m. Saturday.

54-year-old David Morrissey of Mohawk had been seen entering the water but he did not resurface.

An investigation determine Morrissey was on Deowongo Island when he noticed his boat was floating away.

Morrissey's body was pulled from the lake several hours later by a state police underwater recovery team.

The state Department of Environmental Conservation website indicates the maximum depth of the lake is 44 feet. State police did not indicate how deep the water is where the man's body was found.
