Excessive speed is being blamed for a crash Monday, May 30 that left two people injured in Cortland County.

Sheriff’s officials responded to a crash on State Route 26 at the intersection with State Route 23 in the Town of Cincinnatus at 5 p.m. and found a Mazda off the road, on its side and resting against a tree.

Emergency crews had to use equipment to extract the passenger from the vehicle.

Authorities say 18 year old Jason Rice of Willet, who was driving the car and passenger 34 year old Linsey Turshman of Pitcher were both taken to Upstate University Medical Center in Syracuse for treatment.

Deputies say Rice will be ticketed for speed not reasonable, failure to keep right, unsafe tire, prohibited use of studded tires and no seat belt.

Authorities have not provided any information about the extent of Rice and Turshman’s injuries.
