While the driver involved in a single-vehicle crash near Cincinnatus over the weekend is under the legal drinking age, Cortland County Sheriff’s officials say it’s believed alcohol played a factor.

Deputies say they responded to a report of a pickup truck into a tree at around 11:08 p.m. on Saturday, August 27.

Authorities say they found that 20-year-old Anthony Bush of German, New York was driving the pickup in the area of 5939 McFarlane Road in the Town of Cincinnatus when the vehicle left the road and hit the tree.

According to information provided by the Cortland County Sheriff’s office, the 20-year-old was the only one in the pickup truck at the time of the crash.  He was not injured in the collision.

Investigators say they determined that Bush was driving the truck while he was under the influence of alcohol.

Bush was subsequently arrested and ticketed.

According to Deputies, the Chenango County man is being charged with a misdemeanor count of Driving While Intoxicated, Driving with point-oh-eight of one percent or more of alcohol in his system. Bush is also being ticketed for the violation of Speed not Reasonable and Prudent.

Bush was processed and issued an appearance ticket. He has been ordered to appear in the Town of Cincinnatus Court in the evening of September 21.

According to information from the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles, the penalty for a DWI conviction can include a fine, time in jail of up to a year, suspension or revocation of the person’s driver license or combination of those penalties.
