According to the New York State Police at Owego, officers, Great Valley EMS, and the Waverly Barton Fire Department responded to a head-on collision with injuries around 1:26 pm. on Friday, December 20th, 2024.

At the scene of the crash, a New York State Police preliminary investigation revealed that a Toyota Highlander was traveling north on State Route 34, crossed into the opposite lane, and struck a Chevy Silverado pick-up truck head-on that was traveling south.

A driver and three passengers were in the Toyota Highlander. The driver, a 42-year-old female from the Bronx was transported by ambulance to Robert Packer in critical condition.  A 56-year-old male passenger, also from the Bronx was transported by ambulance to Robert Packer Hospital for what appear to be non-life-threatening injuries, according to the New York State Police.

One of the rear-seat passengers, a 41-year-old male from the Bronx, was pronounced deceased on scene, while the other rear-seat passenger, a 38-year-old female also from the Bronx was transported by ambulance to Robert Packer. She succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.

The driver of the Chevy Silverado pick-up, a 68-year-old male from Athens, Pennsylvania was pronounced deceased on the scene. The investigation is ongoing.

Names have not been released at this time according to the New York State Police report. State Route 34 was closed between Old Route 34 and Oxbow Road for several hours while members of the New York State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit investigated.
