The Regional Economic Development Council has awarded the region $88.9 million for collaborating business, government, healthcare organizations and educational institutions in transforming the region’s economy.

Binghamton University ranked near the top of allocations with five-million dollars.  United Health Services Chenango Memorial Hospital in Norwich, the former Polly-O Cheese plant, now known as Upstate Farm Cheese LLC in Campbell, Stueben County and town of Owego were also listed in the allocations December 19.

New York State Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo applauded the awards saying the local council worked very hard on preparing this year’s proposal that built on the core economic development strategies while exploring innovative ideas like approaches to child care.

A total of $761-million is to be directed to economic and community development across New York State.
