City of Binghamton Police say it was busy downtown on New Year’s Eve, probably due to fairly calm weather, but there were no reports of serious problems with disorderly conduct complaints or alcohol-related crashes.

Law enforcement agencies are continuing heightened patrols through the weekend as the mid-week holiday has extended the period during which impaired and dangerous drivers could be on the road.

Travelers returning from the long holiday vacation are reminded that even with construction suspended in many major work zones, reduced speeds and lane restrictions still apply and will be enforced.
