Some Broome County Schools Go Remote Due to COVID Cases

The Johnson City Middle School has moved to full-remote learning to the end of the week (October 9).

Officials say a late notice by the Broome Health Department of a positive COVID-19 case has prompted the move in the Middle School to facilitate contact tracing.

The Maine Endwell Central School District has posted on their website that a staff member working at the middle school has tested positive for COVID-19.  That Middle School is also moving to remote learning for the rest of the week and the district is working with the Broome County Health Department to trace the people who may have had contact with the staff member. 

Contact tracing is also underway at Seton Catholic Central according to calls the district is making to families after two positive cases have been identified in the district. Grades 7 through 12 are moved to remote learning as a result.

The Whitney Point School District announced Sunday, October 4 that High School students only would be moving to fully remote learning for the week due to the number of staff and students impacted by the coronavirus.

School districts are finding it difficult to maintain staff for in-person instruction when there are cases identified within the district that require quarantine.
