A Chenango County man is accused of assaulting a person and then a neighbor after the victim ran to get help.

New York State Police say 25 year old Andrew Carnrike of Smyrna is charged with felony assault and misdemeanor criminal obstruction of breathing as well as harassment in the incident that started on East Main Street at 3:11 a.m. December 10.

Officials say during the initial dispute, Carnrike is accused of grabbing the victim by the throat and following them when they ran to a neighbor’s house.

Once there, Troopers say Carnrike is accused of hitting the neighbor with a household item, causing injuries before fleeing the scene.

Carnrike was sent to the Chenango County Jail on $10,000 bail.
